letters to the editor Dr. William R. Stanley posed several questions regarding why America supports Israel in his obviously anti-semitic Op-ed article entitled "Israel - America's Achilles Heel" in your August 4, 2006 edition. In this article he mentions the poor Lebanese and Palestinian mothers who are maimed by Israeli bombs yet he fails to mention the poor innocent Israeli mothers who are maimed and murdered by Arab suicide bombers and the indiscriminate missiles of Hezbollah. He says that Israel covets its neighbors land, but he makes no mention of Israel's neighbors coveting Israeli land. Has he forgotten that just a year ago Israel forcibly removed its own people in order to transfer land to its Arab neighbors to keep the peace? Jews and Israel have not only a right to exist, they have a God given right. (See Genesis 15:18 and 17:2-8). Ishmael, the father of the Arabs and his descendants are specifically excluded from this area. (See Genesis 17:19-21). Hezbollah's stated purpose for being is to exterminate Jews. They will be destroyed as God commanded Saul to punish Amalek for what they did to Israel.(See 1 Samuel 15:2-3). Israel is a strategic ally of the United States of America in the volatile middle east, and they share our common values. We should lend support to Israel with all that we can because we're at war with the same terrorists. Dr. Stanley calls for a national debate on our relationship with Israel, and he has left little doubt as to which side he's on.
