Robinson Crusoe makes appearance at Richland County Public Library
Contributed by Actors Theatre of South Carolina

Professional actor, Lee O. Smith, plays survivor Robinson Crusoe in Actors' Theatre of S. C.'s premiere of Marooned! Chronicles of a Man Called Crusoe, Sept. 24 at 3 pm at the Richland County Public Library. Contributed by Actors Theatre of South Carolina

Columbian Lee O. Smith is a professional thespian for all seasons. In the past 22 years he has worn the hats of producer, writer, actor, and director.

Throughout the week, Smith works in television production at Columbia's Channel 19, WLTX. On Sundays, Smith is "Burgler Bob" on SCETV'S Deputy Billy and Friends.

As much at home performing Shakespearian dra-ma as he is performing Winnie the Pooh , Smith's film portrayal of Howard Ghormley in The Gibbering Horror of Howard Ghormley was celebrated at Spoleto when the film won The Palmetto Award of the 2005 Folly Felder Film Festival. Lately, Smith has even been seen in a national Converse sneaker ad where he attempts a dare-devil bicycle jump over a long row of sneakers.

Smith has performed with The Actors Theatre of South Carolina for nearly a decade, and on Sunday, September 24, at 3 o'clock, Smith and The Actors Theatre will return to the Bostick auditorium of The Richland County Public Library.

In another of RCPL's free public offerings, Lee O. Smith will portray Robinson Crusoe in his original one-act, one-man show, Marooned: The Chronicles of a Man Called Crusoe. Offerings like this further the library's mission to meet the needs of our community's citizens in regard to reading, learning, and information. Smith's exploration of the life of Daniel Dafoe's Crusoe is also sure to charm and thrill Columbia's children, young and old.

"The show celebrates one of literature's greatest 'survivors.'" says Smith, "a true hard-luck hero."

Says Chris Weatherhead, the shows director, " Marooned is a wonderful blend of comedy and drama."

The Bostick Auditorium is located on the lower floor of The Main Branch of The Richland County Public Library, 1431 Assembly Street. Phone: (803) 929-3457.

The show is free.
