RNE brings students and employers together

In an effort to match local employers with students who are looking for jobs, Richland Northeast High School has inaugurated the Youth Employment Service, or YES.

"At Richland Northeast, YES is a free service," said Judy Giles, RNE's School-to-Work coordinator. "Students in our school are a capable group who benefit from the experience and responsibility of holding a job. At the same time, we can help our community's businesses and households fill their needs for part-time employees."

YES provides its services to students and employers at no charge. Jobs range from yard work and running errands to retail positions and office help and can be one-time or regular part-time - "anything an employer would feel comfortable having a student do," Giles said. "The only limitation would be that the job would have to be after school and/or on weekends for most students."

"We're fortunate that we're in a growing business community," said Ralph Schmidt, RNE's principal. "We're also fortunate in having a pool of responsible students who want to work. YES gives us an opportunity to help our community while serving the needs of our students."
