Enforce the "litter on a stick" law

South Carolina Law specifically prohibits signs of any type to be placed in the public road right of way. Why then, does the South Carolina Election Commission, County Election Commissions, law enforcement, the South Carolina Department of Transportation, SC Highway Commissioners, and the candidates, most of whom, by-the-way, are aware of the law, continue to violate the law by placing "litter-on-a-stick" in the road right of way.

Is there anything the South Carolina Election Commission can do to inform, correct, and/or enforce the South Carolina law? There are more effective ways to campainge than to contribute to the already out of control litter problems in South Carolina.

Barber poll numbers are not true

The Barber poll numbers are simply not true. If they were, I would be the first to say so, because Andre Bauer always does very well in come-from- behind situations, but in this instance, Mr. Barber simply seems to be engaging in one of his old lobbyist tricks: trying to divert attention away from his high- paying career as a lobbyist for liberal interests.

Unfortunately, in doing so, Mr. Barber seems to have crossed the line into dishonesty. Publishing untrue poll numbers is just another example of his tendancy toward the political low-road, alonog with his recent push-polling, his FOI witch-hunts, and his history of waging a negative campaign against Mark Sanford.

Centennial and Columbia are not alike

Re: John Temple Ligon's "Briefs" column, Sept. 22

Yes, Centennial, CO and Columbia, SC are both cities, and yes both begin with the letter C. That's about it. Centennial was formed in 2001 out of unincorporated suburban land outside of Denver, CO in an effort to prevent its annexation by the City of Greenwood Village. Calling it a "city" is a bit of a stretch. It is 87% white, has no downtown, and the city offices (City Hall?) are in an industrial park building. Essentially, it consists of disconnected pieces of land, covered with suburban housing developments, linked by the incorporation process. It has none of the issues, none of the needs, none of the priorities that a real city has.

There are lots of things to pick on Charlie Austin about, but using Centennial, CO as a prod is disingenuous, to say the least.
