Enjoy Palette to Palate in Forest Acres

The Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties will present Forest Acres' third Palette to Palate event on October 17, 6-8 pm. The "restaurant and artist crawl" partners eight restaurants along Forest Drive with talented artists of all types from the surrounding area. The event is free to the public thanks to funds provided by the City of Forest Acres Hospitality Tax.

Andrew Witt, executive director of the Cultural Council says, "The idea behind Palette to Palate is to encourage everyone in and around the Forest Acres area to visit each participating restaurant and enjoy an evening of food, fun, and entertainment."

The following restaurants will participate in Palette to Palate with the following specials, free samples and artists:

+ Cold Stone Creamery

Coppelia: The Girl with Enamel Eyes Contributed by The Palmetto Center for the Arts Dance Ensemble and

The Palmetto Center for the Arts Dance Ensemble at Richland Northeast High School and Richland School District 2 are proud to present Coppelia: The Girl with Enamel Eyes Saturday, November 4, 7 pm and Sunday, November 5, 3 pm in the Richland School District 2 Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens and will be available at the box office before both performances. Group rates of $2 per ticket are available for groups of 12 or more and by purchasing them in advance. Group rates will not be available at the door.

This classical ballet from the Romantic period has students, faculty, and administration from all across Richland School District 2 involved in the production. The title role of Coppelia will performed by Katie McCarthy, a student at Forest Lake Elementary, Saturday November 4 and Erick McClendon from the Palmetto Center for the Arts Academy Sunday, November 5 .

Dancing the role of Swanhilda will be Palmetto Center for the Arts (PCA) junior dance student, Rachel Milas on Saturday, November 4 and PCA sophomore, Holly Walters, on Sunday, November 5.

PCA sophomore dance student, A. J. Brannum will dance the role of Franz. Guest artist, Stephen Ferguson with Vibrations Dance Company and PCA senior dance student, Randi Newman will dance the Lead Couple in the Dance of the Hours in Act III.

Also in Act III, PCA sophomores Stephanie Cole will perform the Dawn solo and McClain Dupree will dance the role of Prayer. Diadra Lewis and Alexis Whitten will dance the Spinning Duet and Vanessa Burgess, London Knight, and Curtis Taylor will perform the Wedding Dance.

Leading the well-known Mazurka will be Lead Couple, Jessical Washington and Alex O'Neal, and soloist Yadira Hostos. The Mandarin Doll in Act II will be Brent Shuman from Forest Lake Elementary school. Act II dolls also include Katelin Miller of Summit Parkway Middle School, Hannah Moore of Forest Lake Elementary, Ashley Boyte of the Center for Knowledge, and Morgan McCleod of North Springs Elementary.

Leading the adult roles with Richland Northeast High school science teacher, Pat Downing, in the role of Dr. Coppelius, the mysterious toymaker. Thom Buckland will portray the Burgomaster. The Czardas will be performed by Richland Northeast faculty members, Betsy Kinsella, Kimberly Norris Jones, and Elizabeth Crenshaw. Dr. Stephanie Burgess, a member of the Richland School District Two School Board, will round out the cast of adult performers in the Czardas.

Set in a Bavarian village in the 1870's, this beloved comedy revolves around mistaken identity and ends with a wedding. It was the last ballet created in the Romantic style and was originally choreographed by Arthur St. Leon and re-choreographed by Marius Petipas. A favorite of children, the production will open the Palmetto Center for the Arts Dance Ensemble season.

Last year, Richland Northeast High School and the Palmetto Center for the Arts were the recipients of the Kennedy Center's Creative Ticket Award, given to only five public schools from across the United States.
