Help us find Jasper John's classmates

Were you at A.C. Moore Elementary for the 1939-40 school year? Take any art classes with Jasper Johns?

The Chicago Art Institute is planning an exhibition of work by Jasper Johns beginning November 2007. In March 2008, the exhibition moves to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The two museums asked the staff at The Columbia Star to solicit input from any students at A.C. Moore from the time Jasper Johns spent his one year there, 1939-40.

Who was the art teacher? What kind of art program did they have at A.C. Moore? In the fall of 1939, Johns was nine years old and presumably a fourth-grader. Was the talent already coming through?

Please let us know. And if you can't, please help us find people who can. They're only near 76-years old.
