Dreher presents The Pirate of Penzance
Contributed by
Dreher High School

As the new Dreher High School begins to take shape, the Three-D Players of Dreher High School want to honor 70 years of great artistic achievement at Dreher by presenting Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance revolves around the story a young man's promise to be a slave of duty as he encounters love, pirates, orphans, and major generals. While this campy production features many zany and witty characters, the course of true love is never deterred. Dreher offers this rollicking comedy as a tribute to all those who have trod the old boards at Dreher as they all journey toward new horizons together.

Cast in the leading role of Frederick are Jay Zenger and Keith Hair. Roddey Smith will dazzle the audience in the title role of The Pirate King and Charles Francis will astound everyone as the Modern Major General, custodian to over 20 young maidens!

Seniors and songstresses Bess Brown and Juliet Sheridan will portray Mabel, Frederick's love interest and daughter to the Major General. Viva Whitlark, Iris Schomaecher, Dana Witkoski, Lindsay Lesesne, and Caitlin Orr will delight everyone with their vocal and theatrical antics as they play Mabel's sisters.

It only gets funnier when Lee Harrington and Joey White open the show as buccaneer Sam, the First Mate! Of course, when Ted Gwara enters as the Sergeant of the Police, all sorts of madcap fun ensues, especially after William Kana, the Deputy arrives.

Rounding out the cast is an assortment of orphan pirates, bumbling cops, and not-so-innocent fair maidens, all making for a delightful and delirious evening.

Opening night is Thursday November 2, 2006, at 8 pm in the Dreher High School Auditorium. Shows continue on Friday and Saturday nights and with a Sunday afternoon matinee at 3 pm on November 5. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.
