Ali Boyd , a senior at Hammond School, attended a week-long program at Furman University this past summer designed to encourage the development of future leaders, Furman's Emerging Public Leaders.

Carol Brooks placed seventh at an American Quarter Horse Association Regional Experience in Amateur Select Hunter Under Saddle with Docs Lucky Tonight.

Second Lt. Phillips McWilliams graduated from the U.S. Army Infantry Officer Basis Course at Fort Benning, Ga. as the Platoon Honor Graduate September 8, 2006. He is a graduate of Hammond School.

Discovery Communications, Inc. selected semifinalists in the 2006 Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge. This is the nation's premiere contest for students in grades five through eight. The students from Columbia are Soorya Avali , Caroline Beebe, and Kristen McLaurin.

Anne Owens , a senior at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School attended Washington and Lee University's Summer Scholars Program.
