Online and telephone referrals available to the public
Contributed by The South Carolina Bar

The South Carolina Bar announces that its Lawyer Referral Service can now be accessed online in addition to the traditional telephone format.

The Lawyer Referral Service offers a simple method of introducing people with legal problems to qualified attorneys. Attorney members of the Lawyer Referral Service have agreed to offer an initial 30-minute consultation to referred clients at a rate of no more than $50.

To access the new Lawyer Referral Service Web Referral System, an individual should visit http://www.scbar.org/lrs and enter his or her name and address. The individual will then pick an area of law and the county in which he or she wishes to receive a referral. The inquirer will receive an email with the name, address, phone number and email address of a lawyer suitable for his or her needs. A separate email will also be sent to the lawyer providing the name and address of the client and the type of case, including with a brief description.

The Lawyer Referral Service Web Referral System is available to anyone with Internet access. The public can continue to reach the Lawyer Referral Service and speak to an operator by calling 1-800-868-2284 (799-7100 in Richland and Lexington counties) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The South Carolina Bar, which has a membership of more than 11,500 lawyers, is dedicated to advancing justice, professionalism and understanding of the law.
