Miss Gersh and Mr. Hitt exchange vows at Seabrook Island, South Carolina

Emily Nicole Gersh and Harry Lucas Hitt were married October 16, 2006, at the Sunset Pavilion at the Seabrook Island Club, Seabrook Island, South Carolina. Dr. Sally Z. Hare, the bridegroom's aunt, performed the double-ring ceremony. Music was provided by soloist Andrew D. Zalkin, cousin of the bridegroom, who sang The Luckiest by Ben Folds.

The bride is the daughter of Nancy E. Caplan of Olney, Maryland, and Dr. Elliot S. Gersh and Lynne C. Foltz of Chevy Chase, Maryland. She is the granddaughter of the late Rudy and Virginia Caplan of Dayton, Ohio, and Sun City, Arizona; and the late Morris and Miriam Gersh of Dayton and West Palm Beach, Florida. The bride attended Springbrook High in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Boston University where she received a degree in communications with emphasis on TV and film production.

The bridegroom is the son of Susan Z. Hitt of Columbia and Robert M. Hitt III and Gwenda G. Hitt of Simpsonville, South Carolina. His grandparents are the late I. J. (Dunny) and Mary S. Zalkin of Charleston, South Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Ann Leonard Hitt of Charleston and the late Robert M. (Red) Hitt Jr. of Charleston. The bridegroom graduated from Mauldin High School in Mauldin, South Carolina, and the College of Charleston with degrees in political science and philosophy. He is employed by The Rhoads Group in Washington, D.C.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents. Her maid of honor was Emily Laine Granetz of Arlington, Virginia; her matron of honor was Rena Lauren Murphy, sister of the bride. The bridesmaids were Stephanie Ann Sherman Older and Gabrielle Marisa Foltz Gersh and Victoria Rose Foltz Gersh, sisters of the bride. The readers and participants were Anna Gray King, Debbie Bernstein, Missy Pyle Downing, Angela Kouters, Karishma Sheth, and Barri Arnold. The flower girl was Kara Danielle Murphy, niece of the bride.

Christian George Walters, a friend of the bridegroom, served as best man. The groomsmen were Alexander Louis Foltz Gersh, brother of the bride; Robert Paul Hitt, brother of the bridegroom; and Matthew Tyler King, cousin of the bridegroom. Susann Antoinette Miller served as groomsmaid.

A reception was held at Seabrook Island Club. After a wedding trip to Machu Picchu, Peru, the couple will reside in Washington, D.C.
