Dreher High School will present Steam Heat: A Tribute to Bob Fosse Nov. 15-17.
Best known for his provocative and revolutionary musical theatre choreography during the 1950s-1970s, Bob Fosse remains a huge influence in today's dance world. As such, Dreher's dance program will present Steam Heat: A Tribute to Bob Fosse November 15-17, 2006, at 7 pm in the school auditorium. The performance is a collection of Fosse's most celebrated works with old time classics such as Steam Heat (The Pajama Game ), Mein Herr (Cabaret ), Big Spender (Sweet Charity ), Honey Hot Rag (Chicago ) and 10 other show stopping numbers.

Fosse's unique dance style is characterized by his use of imperfections. His noted trademarks include turned in stances, hunched shoulders, splayed jazz hands, detailed isolations, and the famous use of a bowler hat. Dreher's production will include all these significant characteristics as well as the humorous, quick, and provocative themes behind them.

"What makes Bob Fosse such a perfect unit of study is his idiosyncrasies. They intrigue my students", said Kathleen Lee, Dreher's dance teacher. "Here's a man who demanded perfection and attention to detail. He expected more than just movement on stage. He created a movement style that encouraged individuality and could look good on all body types.

However, the choreography is not easy! Fosse's style requires energy and attention to detail. But the concept and lesson is perfect for pulling the best out of my high school students! Not to mention Bob Fosse's work is a crowd pleaser! We know if the public attends our concert they will see a talent level that can compete in entertainment value with other venues in Columbia."

To witness Fosse live, tickets may be purchased at the door at 6:15 pm, $3 for students and $5 for adults. For further information contact Kathleen Lee 253-7097 or kale@richlandone.org.
