Letters to the editor This past weekend I was invited to attend the ceremonies for the traveling Virtual Wall Vietnam Veterans Memorial that was visiting your community. It was gratifying to see the tribute paid by so many veterans, and others, to those who fell in combat for their country. To be remembered for the ultimate sacrifice. There are many that should be recognized for their dedicated work during this past week, and I am sorry I do not know their names. I know many volunteers came from out of state and the Asbury United Methodist Church had a major involvement. My understanding is that Dignity Funeral Home was the sponsor of this memorial. As I sat in the chill of the night and listened to volunteers read the names of 56,000 fallen comrades, it was emotionally overwhelming and brought back many vivid memories. You are to be commended for being a caring community .

Vietnam Veteran appalled at coverage by local daily I am appalled, but not surprised, by the lack of coverage of the Dignity Memorial Vietnam Memorial Wall by The State newspaper. The Wall was in Greenlawn Memorial Park from Oct. 24-Oct. 30. Vietnam Veterans, Gold Star & Blue Star Mothers, AMVETS, Purple Heart Associations and many other Veterans groups provided over 200 volunteers to support the display of the Wall. A four-person team from New Jersey came down to provide BBQ meals on Saturday and Sunday. Special thanks to The Columbia Star , SC United Methodist Advocate, and all four of our local TV stations for their excellent coverage of this special event. I know I speak for over 50,000 SC Vietnam Veterans and thousands of wives and parents who lost loved ones in Vietnam, who were grateful for the opportunity to remember and honor the 58,000 + who gave their lives in Vietnam.
