Magic men manifest awards
Two teenage magicians from Columbia swept the awards in stage magic competition held in Daytona Beach, Florida. Matt McCoy (16) won First Place, and Daniel Ferst (15) won Second Place in Stage Magic (Junior Category) at the Daytona Festival of Magic. "It was thrilling to get to meet all the Stars of magic!" said winner Matt McCoy. Eleven entrants from the USA, South America, and Japan were judged on magical technique, costuming, and entertainment value. McCoy's colorful act featured appearing umbrellas, while Ferst's act was darker: a tribute to the Phantom of the Opera . McCoy attends Irmo High School, and Ferst attends Heathwood Hall. The two magicians met at the monthly meetings of the Society of American Magicians/Young Magi #284 and were both coached by magician Joey Vasquez. The young tricksters are featured at S.C.A.M. (the SC Association of Magicians convention). McCoy appearied last year and Ferst is booked for annual show on January 12, 2007.
