Three students in the Richland Northeast High School's Palmetto Center for the Arts Literary Arts program were among the five South Carolina Young Poets Prize winners announced on November 11 at the Young Poets' Gathering at the Columbia Art Museum. More than 1,000 poems were submitted from throughout the state. The prize's sponsor is the University of South Carolina's Split P Soup, which operates under the umbrella of the South Carolina Poetry Initiative. This year's judge was South Carolina poet and Clemson instructor Dr. Ryan Van Cleave. Pictured are Shelby Switzer (third place), Chelsea Wozniak (second place), and Hallie Carde (honorable mention).
