Notes from the original unveiling of the Wade Hampton Monument in 1906 taken from a Confederate Veteran
The dedication of the monument to Wade Hampton at Columbia, S.C. was attended by a great thong, estimated at from 10,000 to 15,000 visitors. The parade was probably the longest ever seen in this city. In the line of march were numerous military institutions of the State and about 25 companies of State troops. There were survivors of Hampton's calvary mounted,a long line of Confederate veterans, sons of veterans, and a stream of carriages containing distinguished guests. There were also three bands of music.
