Hand Middle School wins state competition

Hand Middle School emerged victorious at the South Carolina Bar Law Related Education State Middle School Mock Trial Competition, held December 2, at the Marc Westbrook Judicial Center in Lexington.

Participating students from Hand Middle School were Lizzie Adkins, Kendall Beard, Dayne Burns, Priscilla Davis, Brandon Foster, Zachary Hodges, Madison Matheus, Sarah Rhu and Allison Schweickert. Teacher Robert Lominack served as both the lead teacher and attorney coach for the team.

Other participating schools were Ashley Hall (Charleston), Bob Jones Junior High School (Greenville), Johnsonville Middle School (Florence), Marrington Middle School (Goose Creek), North Myrtle Beach Middle School (N. Myrtle Beach), Northside Middle School (Greenwood), Southeast Middle School (Hopkins), Southside Middle School (Florence) and St. Anthony Catholic School (Florence). Awards were also presented to students based on individual merits as most effective attorney and witness. Students from the Midlands who received the Most Effective Attorney Award are Lizzie Adkins (Hand Middle School), Cheryl Coleman (Southeast Middle School), Nakiesha Gibson (Southeast Middle School) and Allison Schweickert (Hand Middle School). Erika Alvarez of Southeast Middle School was presented with the Most Effective Witness Award.

The mock trial program is sponsored by the South Carolina Bar's Law Related Education (LRE) Division.
