Varsity tennis star wins state sportsmanship award
Sophomore Catherine Roach, the #1 seed on Heathwood's girls' varsity tennis team, has been selected to receive the US Tennis Association SC Division's Junior Sportsmanship Award for 2006. The statewide honor is given annually to a female player who demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship on and off of the tennis court. "I can't think of a more deserving player," said David McMurtry, girls' varsity head coach. "I see her outstanding play and sportsmanship every day, so it comes as no surprise to me that she was selected for this prestigious award." Catherine, daughter of Sharon and Dan Roach, will be presented with the award in December at the USTA SC annual meeting in Hilton Head.
