Richland Sertoma Club Sponsors 2007 National Heritage Essay Contest: "What Freedom Means To Me"

The Richland Sertoma Club will celebrate and sponsor the 2007 National Heritage Essay Contest - "What Freedom Means To Me" during February 2007. Eligible writers must be in grades 6, 7, or 8 during the 2006 - 2007 School Year.

What: National Heritage Essay Contest

Who: Richland county students in 6th, 7th and 8th Grade during the 2006-2007 School Year

Essay deadline: January 8, 2007 (Postmarked no later than January 4, 2007).

Mail essay to Richland Sertoma Club, P.O. Box 1046, Columbia, SC 29202.

Note: Contestants must include complete contact information with your essay including name, age, current grade, mailing address, phone number, school, and parents' and teacher's names. Essays which are submitted without this contact information or after the deadline will not be judged.

Awards: A 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Award will be presented by the Richland Sertoma Club at its noon luncheon meeting on February 1, 2007. Award winners, their parents, and teachers will be invited to highlight each student's achievement. In addition, winners will be recognized at the Wade Hampton District's National Heritage Banquet at 6:30 pm February 16, 2007, at Seawell's Restaurant on Rosewood Drive. First Prize is a $500 Savings Bond. Second Prize is a $250 Savings Bond. Third Prize is a $100 Savings Bond.

National Heritage Essay Contest

"What Freedom Means to Me" is Richland Sertoma's annual National Heritage Essay Contest for Richland county students currently in 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade who are able to express, in writing, and in their own words, "What Freedom Mean To Me." This essay may either be typed or handwritten and must be less than 500 words. The contest is designed to capture the imagination and youthful reflections of the young people in our community and to remind us all of Freedom's meaning in our lives.
