SCORE honors volunteers

USC professor Sarah Wise receives congratulations on her years of service as a SCORE consultant from Midlands chapter John LaFond.

Veteran SCORE volunteers James B. Carraway, Sarah B. Wise, Anthony P. Bracalente, and Irwin Praeger were honored Dec. 5, 2006, at the annual awards luncheon. Additionally, a posthumous tribute was made to Connie Lowry who had been a SCORE volunteer for more than a decade.

Ike Williams of U.S. Representative James Clyburn's office was keynote speaker at this year's SCORE awards luncheon.

The Midlands SCORE Chapter recognized volunteers who have given generously of their time and experience over a cumulative half-century of service.

Attorney James B. Carraway received the Gold Member award for exceptional service. USC faculty member Sarah B. Wise was recognized for 20 years of service to SCORE.

Two Sumter businessmen were honored for a total of 25 years' service. Anthony Bracalente has been with SCORE for 15 years; Irwin Praeger has volunteered to help small business owners for 10 years.

SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business, is the nation's premier source of free and confidential small business advice for entrepreneurs. SCORE has helped more than 7.5 Million small businesses through its face-to-face counseling and workshops emanating from 389 chapters.

SCORE counts among its success stories Vermont Teddy Bear, and Vera Bradley, as well as many businesses in the midlands area.

Formed in 1964 to help small businesses flourish, SCORE' has more than 10,500 volunteers, working/retired business owners, executives and corporate leaders with more than 600 business skills.
