The Richland Northeast High School GAP Choir presented their fourth annual Winter Concert on December 16 at BibleWay Church. The concert featured the choir’s mime team, praise dancers, and hip–hop dancers and the release of the GAP CD single. Guest artists Focus, from Charleston, also performed. GAP was featured on Terrence Young’s CD Healing for the Soul , release earlier this year. Joyce Abel is the choir’s director and a Richland Northeast science teacher. Higher Ground won WFMV's Local Praise Challenge in August. The Choir has received national attention, winning the Black Music Caucus School Gospel Choir Competition in New York City earlier this year with nine out of 16 possible awards, including Most Outstanding Soprano Vocalist, Most Outstanding Alto Soloist, Most Outstanding Choreography, and Most Outstanding Student Director. GAP, which began as a middle school club, performs regularly throughout the Midlands area. For bookings, contact Joyce Abel at (803) 699-2800 ext. 2622 or jabel@rnh.richland2.org.
