Flora sophomore receives award of Eagle Scout

Austin Layden received the Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor Ceremony at St. Martin's - in- the- Fields Episcopal Church Dec. 17, 2006. Layden is a member of Troop 4 of The Indian Waters Council. He is a sophomore at A.C. Flora High School and is enrolled in the International Baccalaureate student program.

For his service project, Layden renovated the courtyard at the Easter Seals building providing easier access for their daily patient activity.

Layden received recognition from family and friends and President and Mrs. George W. Bush, Gov. Mark Sanford who is an Eagle Scout, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, and Mayor Bob Coble.

Layden is the 15- year- old son of Pat and Greg Layden; brother of Lauren Layden; grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney T. Gattis, and Mrs. James F. Layden, and the late James F. Layden, all of Columbia.
