The Columbia Classical Ballet with artistic director Radenko Pavlovich is dedicated to providing S.C. audiences with the experience of classical ballet performed by the recognized ballet stars of the day. The Ballet recruits the most talented performers from around the world and brings them to the Midlands.
Additionally, the Columbia Classical Ballet actively supports our community through an extensive outreach program. The hallmark of this outreach program is the annual production of LifeChance: One Night for a Better Day , benefiting children in danger. LifeChance is an alliance of internationally renowned artists joining with local artists to perform one night of spectacular entertainment and to raise funds for a different charitable organization each year. This year the organization is Zig the Pig, a pediatric cancer support organization. Carolina Care Plan, Fisher Communications Inc., and an anonymous supporter will each donate $1 for each filled seat. There are 2300 seats at the Koger Center so there is a possibility of $6900 being raised for the cause.
Dancers for the evening include Columbia's own Brooklyn Mack, the 2006 USA International Ballet Competition Silver Medalist who will perform variations from Diana and Acteon and also Lacrymosa.
Sarah Hairston who studied at the Calvert Brodie School of Dance with Ann Brodie will perform Journey with Jay Goodlett.
Gold medalists include Aleksandr Buber and Misa Kuranaga. Buber and Miki Watanabe will perform Flower Festival of Genzano . Kuranaga will perform Esmeralda with Reyneris Reyes. Bronze medalists are Joseph Gatti who will perform Harlequinade and Echoes , and Jeffrey Cirio who will perform Le Corsaire Slave of Medora with Adiarys Almeida. Melanie Atkins and Sabi Varga will perform Escamillio and Carmen Pas de Deux.
