US Attorney Reginald Lloyd presents Columbia Police Chief Dean Crisp with the Strom Thurmond Award for Outstanding City Law Enforcement Officer in South Carolina.
The SC State Fair received two awards of excellence for its agricultural and competitive exhibits programs from the 2006 International Association of Fairs and Expositions. The winning categories were Exhibitor Handbook on the Web and Program Designed to Correct an Issue or Problem Related to a Competitive or Non- Competitive Agriculture Program.

The male Treeing Walker Coonhound, PR Outlaw Josie Wails, owned by Sherman Frost and John Gullett earned second place overall and Treeing Walker Coonhound, PR Drain's Little Sneak, owned by Timothy Hutto, earned fourth place overall during the weekend's Nite Hunt competitions at the 42nd annual Grand American coonhound event.

The SC Wildlife Federation will honor conservationists at the 42nd Annual Conservation Awards Banquet. Honorees include The SC Department of Natural Resources, The Nature Conservancy and The Conservation Fund; Dan Turpin, Outdoor Ethis Award; Jane Hiller, Communications Award; Sumter High School Environmental Center, Education Award; Dorothy Mosior, Bootsie Manning Wildlife Habitat Conservation Award; Furman University, Organization Award; Frank Holleman, Water Conservation Award; Congressman Bob Inglis, Legislative Award; Dan Rankin & Jeanne Riley, Wildlife Conservation Award; US Engine Valve, Wildlife And Industry Together Award.

Four Richland One Schools will receive the 2006 Palmetto Gold or Palmetto Silver Awards. They are Heyward Career and Technology Center, a Palmetto Gold winner; Hopkins Elementary, Webber Elementary, and Watkins- Nance Elementary, Palmetto Silver winners.

Vince Ford, a member of the Richland One Board of School Commissioners, has been honored by the SC School Boards Association for 15 years of service.

Chief Dean Crisp has been presented the Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement as the Outstanding City Law Enforcement Officer for 2006.
