Artshack holds student art show
Photos and story by Mimi M. Maddock

Emily Smith, a third grader at Sandy Run Elementary, holds one of her exhibits on display at The Artshack and Gift Shop.

Paula Hayne Bowers, owner of The Artshack and illustrator of Charley's Columbia Backyard , hosted an exhibit the week of Jan. 15, 2007, featuring the artwork of her students. The show was held in the back of her establishment where she teaches art to adults and children. In the front of The Artshack is the work of local artists. Parents, grandparents, and friends of the artists attended enjoying the cookies and a creative cake made out of cupcakes.

Bowers grew up in Shandon and attended Rosewood Elementary School, Hand Middle School, and Dreher High School. When at Dreher she was selected to be a part of the Governors School for the Arts. She also attended Columbia College. Bowers is married to Robert Bowers. They have four children: Sarah, Alex, Evelyn Grace, and Paul.

The Artshack is located at 2701A Rosewood Drive.
