Ivory- bill woodpecker not extinct

The article on the Miller- Ellison house and the present owner, sculptor Grainger McKoy, states the birds shown that he carved are extinct. While this is no doubt unfortunately true for the Carolina parakeet (a near crow- sized parrot), it is not so for the ivory- bill woodpecker as a subspecies was discovered a decade or two ago in Cuba and more recent sightings were positively confirmed in Arkansas.
