The Lower Richland Diamond Hornets fended off a hot shooting Spring Valley team defeating the visiting Vikings 63- 49 Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Both teams got off to a quick start from the outside. Spring Valley's Cameron Grissom and Ronald Zimmerman sank three pointers in the first period, but the Diamond Hornets answered right back with three- pointer shots from Lavares Goodwin, Curtis Burton, and Rashawn Brailsford.

Grissom's three gave Spring Valley its one and only lead of the night at 3- 0, but Goodwin would add four more to his three and Brailsford's three- point shot with 4.4 seconds remaining in the first period gave the Diamond Hornets a 17- 12 advantage.

David Sumter scored all six of his points in the second period to help Lower Richland stretch the lead to 37- 20 at halftime. The Vikings battled back in the third period outscoring the Diamond Hornets 13- 6. Back to back three- pointers from Sedarien Dantzler and Zimmerman made the score 43- 33 going into the fourth period.

Zimmerman's jumper early in the fourth cut the lead to six at 43- 37. The teams then traded baskets, but six points was as close as the Vikings got. Lower Richland closed the game with an 18- 10 run paced by six points in the period from Enrique Wilson and Brailsford.

Goodwin and Brailsford led the Diamond Hornets with 13 points each. Burton added nine and Wilson finished with eight.

Zimmerman led all scorers with 14, while Josh Hutto- Peters added eleven for the Vikings.

Lower Richland improves to 18- 5 (6- 1) and will host Ridge View Friday, Feb. 9 for the Region 5- 4A championship. The Vikings drop to 5- 18 and will host arch rival Richland Northeast Friday.
