Contributed by Carolina Cats
The CFA (Cat Fanciers's Association) Cat Show will be Saturday, Feb. 24 from 10 am- 5 pm at the Jamil Temple, 206 Jamil Rd., off St. Andrews Road at I- 26. Lots of loveable, adoptable cats will be available. Cats can be entered in the Household Pet Contest at 1:30 pm. Participants must enter by 1 pm. For more information visit carocats.petfinder.org or call 798-7285.
Helping to promote the show is Dora of Pirateslair, a kitten adopted from Carolina Cats at the summer show by Laurie Patton, secretary of Palmetto Cat Club, sponsors of the show. Dora will appear on WLTX TV- 19 with Jim Gandy Friday, Feb. 23 at 6 pm.
Dora's is a true rags- to- riches story. This tiny homeless kitten was born to a feral mama last summer under a yard- trash dumpster. On the day her mama and her calico sister Lily, were trapped, Dora disappeared. The next day there was torrential rain, thunder and severe lightening, but Dora was nowhere to be found.
Somehow this six- week- old baby, out all alone, found a safe place to survive the terrible stormy day and night and managed to avoid predators.
After a vet visit and reunion with mom and sister, Dora thrived. She entertained spectators at the cat show by twirling around in her cubicle, chasing her own tail and playing with the tail of the cat in the next cubicle. Little Dora placed third in the summer Household Pet Contest judged by Jim Gandy last year.
Laurie Patton is a Maine Coon and Birman breeder and organizer of the local CFA and TICA (The International Cat Association) shows. She fell in love with Dora's outgoing personality and perfect markings. Since then Laurie has shown her in Household Pet on the TICA show circuit, and Dora is now 4th best in the Southern Region and 10th best internationally!
