Senior night doesn't mean much when there are no seniors on a team, which is the case for the Heathwood Hall Lady Highlanders. So the Lady Highlanders' regular season finally at Heathwood Hall Tuesday, Feb. 13 with the Cardinal Newman Lady Cardinals didn't have the usual pomp and circumstance associated with senior night.

That was OK with the Lady Cardinals because they have only one senior listed on the roster as well. Instead, youth and the future of both programs were on display.

Junior Jaime Shaw scored ten first half points and sophomore Shyainne Oakman added nine of her 13 points in the second half to lead the Cardinal Newman Lady Cardinals over the Lady Highlanders 43- 28.

The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 10- 0 lead after Beth Eckstein's three point shot and fifth point of the first period, but the Lady Highlanders closed the period with a 7- 2 run and opened the second with a 5- 0 run to tie the game at 12- 12. Shaw then took over for the Lady Cardinals scoring seven points in the period helping Cardinal Newman to a 23- 17 halftime advantage.

Kristin Dickerson scored nine of Heathwood Hall's eleven second half points. Oakman matched Dickerson's second half performance for Cardinal Newman and also got some help from her teammates who threw in eleven.

The Highlanders are seeded fourth for the SCISA Region II- 3A playoffs and will face fifth seeded St. Joseph's at Heathwood Hall Saturday at 5 pm. The winner of that game gets a ticket with the Lady Cardinals Monday at 3:30 pm at Heathwood Hall. The Lady Cardinls earned a first round bye and the number one seed in the tournament.
