Dreher High School presents... Dancing with the teachers

If you enjoy the hit TV shows Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, you won't have to go far to get a live rendition. Dreher High School Dance Team members will hold a fundraiser March 16, 2007 at 7 pm in the Dreher auditorium entitled Dancing with the Teachers . The show features ten student and teacher duos competing against one another to raise money for a dance team trip, and to win the title of "Dreher's Favorite Dance Pair."

Votes can be bought at this competition. Every dollar an audience member casts is a vote towards a couple becoming the winner. Proceeds from the production will cover costs for a dance- intensive trip to New York City in April.

"I needed a fundraiser that everyone would want to participate in. When a parent mentioned modeling a concert after the reality TV dance shows I thought, wow! We've really got something here!" said Kathleen Lee, Dreher's dance teacher. "Not only were the students and teachers excited, but the teachers have become extremely competitive, and the school is beginning to buzz about seeing their favorite or maybe not so favorite teacher on stage."

The audience can look forward to a panel of judges making comments after each performance. Lucas McFadden from WIS's early morning show Live with Lucas will serve as a celebrity judge.

Dancing with the Teachers will include four dance performances by Dreher's dance team, a faculty and student finale, and the following dance styles: Hip Hop, Brian Mahelsky, administrator; the waltz, Mike DuBard, athletic director; the tango, Bill Bacon, football coach; salsa, Paul Watson, wrestling coach; the pasa doble, Ned Nance, chemistry and physics teacher; krumping, Dreher's Media Mavens; contemporary, Kinsley Wentzky, English teacher; Broadway, Miriam Goodrich, world history teacher; the jive, Roy Blakeney, vice principal; and disco, David Vandiver, art teacher.

Admission is $5 and tickets can be purchased at the door the evening of the concert, as early as 6:15 pm. Each vote cast for a couple costs one dollar. For more information about attending the performance or making a donation to Dreher's dance program please contact Kathleen Lee at (803) 253-7097.
