Contributed by The South Carolina State Society, Daughters of the American Colonists

The South Carolina State Society, Daughters of the American Colonists, held its 77th State Assembly Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Columbia Country Club, Blythewood, S.C., with the Governor Joseph West Chapter and the Fort Cogaree Chapters as hostesses.

Eight Chapters throughout the state were represented. Miss Mary Armstrong as state regent, conducted the meeting. The speaker for the day was Ms. Frankie Cline, vice regent of DAC, who travelled from West Virginia. Her subject was Patriotic Education.

The Patriotic Education committee was formed in 1937 in order to arouse the interest of the public to sustain a love of America. Ms. Cline stressed the need for children of foreign immigrants to be aware of our flag, our constitution, and the ideals this country stands upon. She said we must teach children at an early age the morals and values of our country. This is crucial to the continued existence of our great nation.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 pm.
