Nancy Pierce Little, a sixth- grade world history teacher at Crayton Middle School, has been selected to participate in the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) Study Tour on Economic Education in Romania in March. The study tour is an activity of the Cooperative Education Exchange Program conducted by NCEE with funding from the U.S. Department of Education in coordination with the U.S. Department of State.
Little, an ELITE teacher with the S.C. Council on Economic Education, achieved National Board certification in early adolescence social studies/history in 2003. She is one of 12 U.S. educators selected to take part in this program. After a pre- departure program in Washington, D.C., the group will travel to Bucharest, Romania, where tour members will visit schools, observe teacher training activities, and meet with Ministry of Education officials, educational administrators and business leaders.
Participants will learn about the successes and challenges to delivering economic education in Romania, a country undergoing dramatic transition; inform their Romanian counterparts on how economic education is delivered in the U.S.; and bring the experience back home through formal presentations and informal discussions.
Little left for Washington on March 8.
After returning from the study tour, Little will incorporate the experience into her teaching of economics, conduct workshops on transitional economies and give presentations to local civic and educational groups.
