Crayton's MATHCOUNTS wins first place

Crayton Middle School's MATHCOUNTS team placed first out of 20 public and private schools at Dutch Fork Middle School on Saturday, Feb. 17. With 120 students participating, Sage Price placed first, Hardie Cate, second, Thomas Fisher third, Kevin Hoffman seventh, and Maria Piroli thirteenth. Sage Price placed first in the Countdown Round. The MATHCOUNTS team competed at the state competition on Saturday, March 3 at Clemson.
Crayton's MATHCOUNTS team has placed first at the regionals in six of the past eight years and has placed first in the state competition three of the past four years. This tradition is unsurpassed in the state of S.C. over the 24 years of MATHCOUNTS competition. The Crayton's team coach is Mr. John Rushman.
Crayton Middle School placed third in the state competition. The top four individual winners plus the coach from the winning school will represent S. C. at the National competition in Fort Worth, Texas, May 11-13, 2007.
Taking first place in the individual competition was Sage Price from Crayton Middle School.
