Doris D. Barber

A funeral service for Mrs. Doris D. Barber, 84, of Columbia, was held at 2 o'clock, Friday, March 16, 2007, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with The Rev. Mary Greene Kearse officiating. Burial followed in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 1 until 2 o'clock, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine St., Columbia, S.C. 29205.

Mrs. Barber died Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Walter O. and Jettie Phillips Davis. She was a charter member of Shandon United Methodist Church and a loyal member of Shandon UMC Lunch Bunch. Mrs. Barber enjoyed round dancing through association with Patter Partners, Jackson Square, and Rockaround Dance Clubs. She also enjoyed her association at the Capital Senior Center. Doris was a very loving wife, who cared for her late husband for many years. She was also a loving mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter, Deanetta and her husband Samuel D. III Ellison of Columbia; sons: Mevelin F. Barber Jr. and his wife, Helen M. of Gaston; Steven A Barber of Lexington and his wife, Pat; grandchildren: Samuel D. Ellison IV, Christopher L. Barber, Robert Mevelin Barber; great- grandchildren: Haleigh Barber, Taylor Barber, Robert Mevelin Barber Jr.; brother: Oliver J. Davis; sister: Myrtle Bagnal.

Her husband, Mevelin F. Barber Sr. predeceased her by only 30 days.
