Cardinal Newman takes a sentimental journey
Over 300 people gathered at Tronco's at the fairgrounds to take a "sentimental journey" through Cardinal Newman's history Feb. 24 at 6 pm. The theme was suggested by Cardinal Newman's new principal, Jacquline Kasprowski. Cindy Touma, chair, says the theme "was an excellent choice in this year of change at Cardinal Newman." Touma and a team of 12 volunteers began working at the beginning of the year to pull together the school's single biggest fund raiser for the PTO. This year's proceeds will go to improve technology in the classrooms. This year's fund- a- project is a mobile wireless computer lab, complete with 20 laptops, a router and a printer. In keeping with the "Sentimental Journey," theme many of the silent auction items were handmade memorabilia. There was also a cherry red 1973 Cadillac ElDorado convertible and a precious black lab puppy to bid on at the live auction. Stick Thibodaux and Chuck Cornwell served as auctioneers and Rose Tindall described the objects as they came up for auction. Many people including Jerry Campanaro, who baby- sat the puppy during the silent portion of the auction, entered into the live bidding action to take her home. This year's major auction sponsor was Love Chevrolet and families, friends and community businesses chipped in to help the school reach the overall target goal of $122,000.
