Hammond student wins honors for chemistry project

The Central S.C. Region II Science & Engineering Fair, hosted by USC, was held March 23. Participants in grades 5- 12 who had placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in any category of a local school science fair were eligible to exhibit. Over 700 students from nine counties competed for over $30,000 in awards. Hammond 6th grader, Mary Heath, took overall honors in the chemistry category for her project that tested the different strengths of SPF to determine at which level both natural and artificial light were most significantly blocked.
