St. Peter's Catholic Church invites the Columbia community to Groundbreaking Weekend for St. Peter's new $3,000,000 Parish Life Center, designed by the Boudreaux Group, which will be located on the corner of Taylor and Assembly, next to St. Peter's Church at 1529 Assembly St.
Groundbreaking Weekend begins with a Groundbreaking Celebration in the Big Tent Saturday, April 28, 10 am to 4:30 pm in St. Peter's School parking lot. The celebration includes live music, an international foodfest, plus burgers, dogs & bratwurst, and a silent and live auction. The live auction features one- week vacations at prime beachfront destinations like Martha's Vineyard and Daytona Beach, Florida. Tent entrance fee is a free- will offering; all are welcome.
On the same day, St. Peter's is also the first stop on Historic Columbia Foundation's Holy History! citywide tour of landmark churches. There will be an Organ Demo & Crawl. Participants may walk inside St. Peter's massive, one- of- -a- kind Peragallo organ and see how it works. There will be cemetery tours with parishioner- actors in period dress portraying fascinating people from St. Peter's past. The Organ Demo & Crawl starts at 10:15 am. Cemetery tours are at 10:50 am and noon. Tickets to these Columbia Historic Foundation events may be purchased at the Big Apple.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony for St. Peter's new Parish Life Center will be Sunday, April 29 at 9:30 a.m. For more information, contact Emily Hero, 779-0036; emilyw5@yahoo.com.
