Billie Ferguson Poag

A celebration of the life of Billie Ferguson Poag, 90, was held Monday, April 9, 2007, at 11 am in Shandon Presbyterian Church. The family received friends in Davis Hall at the church following the service.

Mrs. Poag, wife of the late Dr. Frederick Vaughn Poag, died Thursday, April 5, 2007. Born in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Allan Bernard and Willie Dorset Ferguson. An active member of Shandon Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder and member of the Ray Riddle Sunday School Class. She was deeply involved in all facets of her late husband's ministries, especially children's Christian education.

Surviving are daughter, Nancy Reid Gilreath of Columbia; grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Robert E. and Bambi Walters of Williamsburg, Va., Nancy Reid and Chad Byrne of Richmond, Va., James Robinson Gilreath Jr. and Ashley Gilreath of Manteo, N.C. and Frederick Poag and Catherine Gilreath of Roanoke, Va.; and eight great- grandchildren. Mrs. Poag was predeceased by daughter, Billie Craig Walters.
