Last year's Spring Valley Viking boys' soccer team began its run to the class 4A state championship match with an opening round 14- 0 drubbing of the visiting Conway Tigers. This year, the Vikings welcomed the Hartsville Red Foxes to Sparkleberry Road Tuesday, May 1 and shut them out 11- 0. And it wasn't that close.
Seven different Vikings scored. Rob Pillinger got three goals in the first half. Mike Czulinski added a goal in each half, while Raymond Keyes added two goals in the second half. Eamon Penland, Sean Flynn, Antoine Parris, and Bradley Burgess also scored.
The Vikings are the overall lower state number one seed and will have home field throughout the playoffs as long as they keep winning. They face the winner of the Stratford/Fort Dorcheter match May 3.
