Jim Morris
Jim Morris's fundraising ideas and genuine passion for teaching, education, and working with young people were rewarded when the S.C. Independent School Association named the high school science teacher their 2007 Upper School Teacher of the Year.

A graduate of West Virginia University, Morris has taught high school science at Heathwood for 10 years. His biology, senior honors biology, and Advanced Placement (AP) biology classes have developed a reputation as some of the most challenging science courses offered at Heathwood.

Morris's unique fundraisers have included repairing and re- selling donated computers and launching a biology babysitting program in the school's Robert Clark Greenhouse that charges families a flat fee to feed and water their house plants during the winter months.

The dollars raised have benefited every science student in Heathwood's Upper School. Since the school began nominating teachers for the SCISA award in 2000, at least one Heathwood teacher has been named a finalist and a Heathwood teacher was named Teacher of the Year in six out of seven years.
