Richland One students excel in math competition
Dreher High School's math team won first place at the Furman University Wylie Mathematics Tournament. Dreher math team members Philip Cross, Noah Fram, Nick Adkins, and Austin Hanlin finished first in the Division II- Small School competition. Phillip Cross and Noah Fram received honorable mention in the Senior Exam section of the competition. A.C. Flora High School, which competed in a different division at the Furman math tournament, took home outstanding honors. Flora captured second place in the Team Award for Division I- Large Schools. This is the highest place an in- state school has won in Division I in the last 10 years. Flora team members were Jim Manning, Ian Taylor, Sean Soni, Katie Steddenbenz, and Vicki Buckingham. The annual Furman University math tournament is a one- day event that is designed to encourage the study of mathematics and provide a challenging and enjoyable competition for top mathematics students.
