South Carolina Mother of the Year Nomination

The South Carolina Mother of the Year Search Committee, a non-profit organization that promotes spiritual and moral values in families, is accepting nominations for South Carolina's Mother of the Year for 2008.

To qualify, a mother must be legally married and be the mother of one or more children (by birth or adoption) who are at least 15 years old. The character and achievements of her children in the religious, educational, civic, or business world must serve as evidence of the mother's success as a mother and homemaker. The mother should participate in community activities and be an active member of a religious body. She must be able to meet responsibilities of her role.

Mrs. Judith Ann Dowty Pittard of Charleston, South Carolina is the state Mother of the Year for 2007. Three of South Carolina's mothers were selected at the national level as American Mother of the Year:

+1958 - Mrs. May Roper Coker of Hartsville

+1983 - Mrs. Clemmie E. Webber of Orangeburg

+1989 - Mrs. Nancy Dinwiddie Hawk of Charleston.
