Paws and adopt a Feline American
Contributed by the Columbia Animal Shelter

Helen Molten of Columbia has affectionately named her new kitten, "Blue." Looking at his eyes explains the name.

Single orange stripped female looking for companionship. She is one of many feline friends with lots of personality available for adoption at the Columbia Animal Shelter, 127 Humane Lane off of Shop Rd. and I- 77.

Adopting a pet costs $68, but being greeted at the door when you arrive home is priceless. The adoption fee covers spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and a microchip linked to a national database to identify your cat if it is ever lost.

While cats are available for adoption any time of the year, our feline friends are showcased in June, which is National Adopt A Shelter Cat Month. Anyone adopting a cat this month will be eligible for a drawing to receive a 25 pound bag of Science Diet kitten or cat food and a free drink koozie from the City of Columbia and Animal Mission, while supplies last.

"With so many great cats and kittens to choose from, it's just a matter of picking out the one that's perfect for you,'' said Marli Clary- Drum, the Shelter's director.

Prospective pet owners can visit the shelter at 127 Humane Lane off of Shop Road between the hours of 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Monday through Friday or 9 am to 4 pm Saturday. For additional information call 776-PETS (7387).
