Miss Smith and Mr. Cathy marry in First Presbyterian Church

Constance Esther Smith of Columbia and James Donald Cathy of Jonesboro, Georgia, were married May 26, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. The Rev. Matthew Lucas performed the one o'clock ceremony. Music was provided by Daniel Truett Cathy, uncle of the bridegroom, trumpeter; and Dow Kirkland, uncle of the groom, soloist.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Stanley Smith III and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gardiner Graham and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Stanley Smith Jr., all of Columbia. She will graduate from the University of South Carolina in December.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Martin Cathy of Jonesboro and the grandson of Mrs. Lurine Kirkland and the late Mr. Jarrell Kirkland of Jonesboro and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Truett Cathy of Hampton, Georgia. Mr. and Mrs. Max Harper of Jonesboro are honorary grandparents. The bridegroom is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.
The bride wore a formal gown in diamond white silk satin. The strapless gown was designed with a natural waistline. This was accented with rouching throughout the bodice, which flowed into a four tiered A- line skirt. A chapel length train adorned the back of the gown.
Mrs. Anita Smith Fair, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor and Graham Elisabeth Smith, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Attendants were Mrs. Amy Turner Cathy, sister- in- law of the bridegroom; Rachel Marie Cathy, sister of the bridegroom; Ida Dargan McMaster; and Ruth Patrick Phillips.
Samuel Mark Cathy, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. The groomsmen were Joseph Luke Cathy, brother of the bridegroom; Matthew Jarrell Cathy, brother of the bridegroom; Seth Martin Cathy, brother of the bridegroom; Banks Harrison Fair, brother- in- law of the bride; and Orville Stanley Smith IV, brother of the bride.
The ushers were Henry Dorah Foster, William Gourdin McMaster, and Roy Grant Smith Jr. Greeters were Katherine Bonner Bowen, Evelyn Wells Bowers, Addie Rebecca Diller, and Megan Lee Richardson.
The church, Jackson Hall and the Atrium were adorned with blue hydrangea arrangements prepared by Mary and Charles Russell. The blue hydrangea theme was complimented by the blue bridesmaids' floor length gowns.
A reception followed in Jackson Hall and the Atrium.
After a honeymoon trip to Bora Bora, the couple will reside in Columbia.
