Conservation league discusses global warming
Elizabeth Hagood of the S.C. Coastal Conservation League addressed a gathering Wednesday, June 27. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy sponsored the event at Columbia Marriott. Following Hagood was a DVD, "Treasured Places: South Carolina in Peril," which can be seen at www.cleanenergy.org. The alliance declared its intent to establish a regional (N.C., S.C., and Fla.) leadership position in showing the rest of the world how to reduce carbon emissions and raise awareness of global warming. Scientists have determined carbon emissions must be reduced 80% by the year 2050 to avoid the catastrophic effects of global warming detailed in a series of 2007 reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC is the world authority on global warming.
