Magic flowers pop open in Forest Acres Every night at 8:35 magic begins to happen in a backyard in Forest Acres. More than 200 yellow buds start popping open, glowing in the moonlight. The evening primrose (Oenothera Biennis) is a North American native biennial plant often four to five feet in height. The entire plant is edible and has often been used for medicinal purposes; however, the Mayo Clinic says to be aware of certain side effects. Since the flowers of the evening primrose only bloom at night they are pollinated by moths and bees that are vespertime temporal specialists. Jim Covington, photographer, filmed the evening primrose garden June 25 and 26, 2007. The movie is in the Forest Acres section of The Columbia
Star website. Visit www.TheColumbiaStar.com to see this fascinating magical flower. |
