At Spring Valley High School, Columbia Northeast Post 182's Jake Mendiola and Jared Martin each hit home runs and Josh Woodall took over in the fifth inning to close the game and allow visiting Richland Post 6 only one run and five hits during that time. Unfortunately for Columbia Northeast, Richland had already racked up eight runs in the first four innings and had a comfortable 9- 0 lead when Mendiola's and Martin's home runs cleared the fences in the ninth inning. Richland went on to win 9- 4.

Richland's Robbie Wilcox had another stellar outing pitching seven scoreless innings. He had a near perfect game going into the sixth inning. Wilcox had struck out seven Columbia Northeast batters, allowed no hits and walked only one. Then Columbia Northeast catcher Todd Mitchum belted a single to right field with one out. Wilcox responded by striking out the next two batters. Mitchum's hit was the only one given up by Wilcox on the night. He finished with 10- strike outs, two walks, and no runs. Wilcox also helped himself out at the plate going 3 for 6 with two runs and an RBI.

Richland second baseman Kyle Strasburger got three hits, two RBI, and two stolen bases on his first three at bats.
Columbia Northeast starting pitcher Greg Brunner appeared to be in pretty good shape through the first two innings facing just eight Richland batters and striking out three of them, but shortstop Justin Strauss got Richland going in the top of the third inning with a single to right centerfield and a stolen base. Right fielder Alston James followed with a walk and Wilcox loaded the bases with an infield hit. Second baseman Kyle Strasburger then got the second of his three hits on the night and the first of his two RBI with a single to center field that scored Strauss from third base. James scored on Chistopher Daniels' ground ball to Columbia Northeast shortstop Matt Hill whose only play was at second base. Greg Dunston then got the first of his four hits on the night to drive in Wilcox.

Columbia NE catcher Todd Mitchum waits for the throw as Richard Mounce scores. Mitchum went 2 for 3 with a run. Mounce was 1 for 5 with a run and two RBI.
The Richland bats stayed hot in the fourth inning. Catcher Michael Bolchoz led off by getting hit with a pitch. Then Strauss reached on an infield hit and Wilcox loaded the bases once again with a single. Strasburger delivered next with his third consecutive hit scoring Bolchoz and loading the bases for Richland power hitter Richard Mounce. Mounce promptly drilled a single to center field scoring both Strauss and Wilcox. Strasburger then stole third base and scored on a Columbia Northeast error. Mounce advanced to third on Dunston's second hit of the night, then scored on Doug Allen's sacrifice fly to center field.

Punky DaSilva took over for Wilcox in the eighth and the Columbia Northeast bats came to life. Brandon Faust drove in Mitchum with a double to the right center field fence in the eighth inning. Mendiola's solo shot in the ninth made the score 9- 2, then Martin's blast over the right field fence scored Craig Durel to close the scoring at 9- 4.

Richland third baseman Greg Dunston gets one of his four hits and an RBI.
Richland improves to 12- 1 and Columbia Northeast drops to 5- 8.
