Four students from A.C. Flora High School advanced to the national level of the National History Day Contest. The group created a 10 minute documentary on the founding of Jamestown. They spent five months researching, shooting, and editing the film. They also spent a weekend interviewing and filming in Jamestown, Virginia.
The students, Brennan Baylis, Mackenzie Sunday, Walker Stinnette, and Meredith Nix, went to Washington D.C. June 10 and spent four days exploring the city and meeting students from other states. They stayed on the University of Maryland Campus and presented to a panel of judges.
Their documentary did not advance to the next round, but as Brennan Baylis said, "The experience was well worth all the hours of work." They also had the opportunity to participate in a discussion with actor Richard Dreyfuss.
