Douglas Moore Maddock Douglas Moore Maddock, 64, died Monday July 16, 2007 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was born December 25, 1942, in Charlotte, North Carolina, a son of the late Bruce Moore and Sadie Barnes Maddock. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Michael Bruce and Johnny Barnes Maddock. Mr. Maddock graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was North Carolina state wrestling champion. He earned a degree in English from the University of South Carolina and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. After graduation, he was employed by General Electric as a salesman in Columbia. He left Columbia to attend Georgia Tech where he earned a masters degree in city planning. In 1972, he became assistant director of planning and development for the City of Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. While in Birmingham, he coached the Misfits, a woman's softball team, that became the fifth best in the United States. In 1986, Mr. Maddock began his 21 years of employment with the city of North Myrtle Beach as the city's director of planning and development. Mr. Maddock was a college football fan, enjoyed fishing, and loved working in the yard. His greatest legacy was he was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be missed by all those who knew him. Survivors include his loving wife of over 21 years, Cathy E. Maddock of Myrtle Beach; a son, John Michael "Mike" Maddock and his wife, Tammie McCarley Maddock of Columbia, SC; a sister, Mary Maddock Long and husband, Scott; and Mr. Maddock's pride and joy, his three grandchildren: McCarley Elizabeth, Ashley Montgomery, and John Michael Maddock all of Columbia, S.C. A funeral service was held at 2 pm Thursday July 19, 2007, at McMillan- Small Funeral Home with Dr. J. Kirk Lawton Jr. officiating. Burial followed the service at Southeastern Memorial Garden in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. The family received friends at McMillan- Small Funeral Home on Thursday July 19, 2007, from noon- 2 pm.
