Westinghouse Electric volunteers and Mill Creek Elementary celebrate a thirty- year partnership
Contributed by Edith H. Caudle

For three decades, Westinghouse Electric has been a steadfast corporate partner to the students, faculty, and parents of Mill Creek Elementary.

This commitment, which is Richland One's longest recorded school- business partnership, celebrated Monday, August 13.

Mill Creek Principal Steven Cannon appreciates the company's commitment to his school, students and education.

"Westinghouse Electric represents the prime example of what a school- business partnership should be," Cannon said.

The company donates a year's supply of copy paper to the school annually, and Westinghouse employees pitch in at the PTA carnival, test their basketball and volleyball skills in exhibition games, and for the past 20 years have sponsored a back- to- school luncheon for teachers.

Westinghouse also helped the PTA sponsor a visit by the Harlem Wizards, a professional entertainment basketball team.

"Westinghouse makes it a priority to focus on the community in which it operates," Carr said, "and the Lower Richland community is important to us."
