Five Points Wheels Transportation Program gets moving
By Caroline Judson

Pauline Dickey takes advantage of the new Five Points Wheels Transportation Program.
Much needed transportation for seniors and disabled adults is becoming available through the new Five Points Wheels Transportation Program.

The program's boundary is Huger St., River Road, Beltline, and Rosewood Ave. The program will operate six days a week approximately six hours per day. The service will be offered to clientele prequalified through a membership mechanism. Pick up and destinations will occur within the boundary. The program is designed to avoid qualification criteria other than a need for transportation. There will be no charge for rides, but donations are accepted. The drivers will be volunteers.

Five Points Wheels is a community project that is being supported by churches, people, businesses, and corporate donations. It will continue to need donations for operating expenses., and volunteer workers are always needed.

A ride to the grocery store or to pick up a prescription or just to meet a friend for lunch is available to individuals by calling the Capital Senior Center at 779- 1971 and asking for Five Points Wheels office or Mr. Cranford. Reservations for a ride should be made at least a day before. Group transportation will also be available.

A wheel chair lift is part of the bus's equipment. There is room on the bus for two wheelchairs to be stored while the owners are riding.
